What Is Phi Theta Kappa?

The Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society was founded in 1918 at a meeting of Missouri junior college    presidents who were seeking to form an organization that recognized superior students. Since its founding Phi Theta Kappa has been the only internationally acclaimed honor society serving two-year colleges offering associate degree programs. Today Phi Theta Kappa is comprised of over 1200 chapters in the United States and abroad. The society recently inducted its two-millionth member. The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize and encourage scholarship among associate degree students. To achieve this purpose the society has developed opportunities for leadership, scholarship, and service, as well as provided an intellectual climate for continued academic excellence.
